The whole school joined the MFL department in celebrating European Day of Languages on September 26th. All week form periods had some added linguistic flair, with registers being taken in a different language each day, and pupils thinking about the diversity of world languages. Assemblies were led by MFL staff who highlighted some of the manifold advantages of studying a foreign language. In addition Mr. Owen offered some Welsh lessons at lunchtime.

KS3 pupils were encouraged to enter the Languages’ Day competition. They could celebrate the diversity of language or explain the importance of learning a language in any creative way. We were delighted to receive over 50 entries, wonderfully decorated cakes with flags and maps, fabulous posters, a story and some very inventive videos. It was so difficult to choose the prize winners, but Mr. Walker and Mrs. Collier stepped up to the task. All entrants were congratulated with a certificate. The MFL staff were absolutely delighted with the response and parents and carers should be very proud of their creative children.

Vive les langues!
