Literary success

The celebrations continued for Standish Community High School student Katie Bennett who backed up her amazing achievement of winning the Portico Library’s literary prize for young writers with a stunning set of examination results. Just before breaking up for the summer, Katie found out that her submission to the Portico’s annual competition to find the very best young writers had been chosen to be published in their anthology this year. Katie wrote a fascinating review of Philip K Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? which was the inspiration for the sci-fi hit Bladerunner. Katie was even interviewed by a national radio show at the Portico’s award ceremony. Katie’s summer got even better this week as she followed this impressive extracurricular achievement with a fantastic set of exam results: Katie achieved 4 Grade 9s, 3 Grade 8s, 1 Grade 7and 2 A*s. Mrs Christopherson, Katie’s English teacher who encouraged her to enter the competition, remarked, “Katie’s achievements show how well-rounded a student she is. She has a real passion and talent for English and works so hard at everything she does.”
